Revised Public Involvement Plan for Transportation Planning Available
Plan Available for Public Comment on 1/12/04
BALTIMORE (January 9, 2004) -- The public is invited to review and comment on a revised Public Involvement Plan and Strategy Guide for transportation planning. This revised Plan describes in detail the public involvement process to be followed by the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB).
The BRTB serves as the transportation planning and policy-making body for the Baltimore region, and has been formally designated as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Baltimore metropolitan area.
The Baltimore Metropolitan Council (BMC) is the organization of the region’s elected executives who are committed to identifying regional interests and developing collaborative strategies, plans and programs which will improve the quality of life and economic vitality throughout the region. BMC staff provide technical and staff support to the BRTB.
The activities funded by the BRTB are supported primarily through federal dollars. Public participation is extremely beneficial in making sound decisions. Transportation affects most of us every single day, so public input is crucial.
The public review and comment period ends on February 25, 2004, but comments in writing will be accepted through March 1, 2004.
The revised Plan includes the following sections:
- How the Public Involvement Plan and Strategy Guide were developed
- General Guidelines for Strategies
- The steps for implementing public involvement for the Long Range Plan, Amendments to the Long Range Plan, the Transportation Improvement Program, the Work Program (the Unified Planning Work Program), future revisions to the Public Involvement Plan and the Annual Performance and Evaluation Report on Public Involvement.
- A Strategy Guide listing seventeen possible strategies for implementing public involvement

Comments are due by 5:00 p.m. on March 1, 2004.
