Open for Public Review: Projects Worth $7.5M to Improve, Repair Bridges

BALTIMORE (March 16, 2011) – Baltimore and Carroll counties have asked to add $7.5 million dollars in bridge improvement projects to the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board’s 2011-2014 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

Baltimore County is requesting to add a $1.7 million preservation project to repair the Jericho covered bridge over the Little Gunpowder Falls. The bridge, located near Jerusalem in Harford County and Kingsville in Baltimore County, was built in 1865 and was last rehabilitated in 1982. It currently has a Bridge Sufficiency Rating of 48.5. This project includes replacing deteriorated timber, repairing the roof, painting, etc.

$1.3 million of the funding will come from the Federal Highway Administration’s National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program. Baltimore and Harford counties, the joint owners of the bridge, will allocate a total of $39,800 to complete the funding.

Carroll County is requesting amendments for the following bridge projects. Funding for these projects will come from the Federal Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Fund.

  • White Rock Road over Piney Run
New Project Funding Source; Advances Project by 1 year
$576,000 to replace key features on bridge to address structural safety issues and deterioration of current structure.
