Executive Summary of Plan It 2035 Released

BRTB Invites Public Comments on Plan It 2035, the Long-Range Transportation Plan for the Region; Public Meetings Scheduled

BALTIMORE (September 14, 2011) – The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) has released the Executive Summary of Plan It 2035, the long-range transportation plan for the Baltimore region, with a list of projects termed the draft Preferred Alternative. The total cost of the Preferred Alternative, which includes freight, highway, transit and pedestrian/bicycle projects, is approximately $11.5 billion.

Citizens are invited to view the Executive Summary and draft project list online at www.baltometro.org. Next week, full documentation for both the short-range and long-range transportation plans with an air quality analysis will also be available in the Regional Information Center at the Baltimore Metropolitan Council (1500 Whetstone Way, Suite 300, in the Locust Point area of Baltimore City), key public libraries, and local planning offices. Comments may be submitted until Friday, October 21.

The BRTB members considered the benefits of many candidate projects before agreeing on a draft Preferred Alternative that will promote transportation safety, improve accessibility and mobility, encourage investments in existing communities, and maintain or improve air and water quality. Compared to the 2007 plan, this draft Preferred Alternative places a greater emphasis on transit, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and system preservation.

Comments may be submitted online at www.baltometro.org/bboard, in writing to Baltimore Regional Transportation Board, 1500 Whetstone Way, Suite 300, Baltimore, MD 21230, by fax to 410-732-8248, or by e-mail to comments@baltometro.org.
