CAC Seeks Members to Provide Advice on Transportation Planning
Citizens Advisory Committee Seeks Members to Provide Advice on Transportation Planning in the Baltimore RegionBALTIMORE, MD (August 27, 2009) -- You’ve heard the old saying – "Everybody complains about traffic but nobody ever does anything about it." Well, here’s your chance to make a difference.
The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) is seeking volunteers representing a diverse cross section of area residents and interest groups for participation on the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC), which provides independent advice on transportation planning in the Baltimore region. Residents of the Baltimore region with experience in commercial transportation (freight, trucking, cabs, etc); highway contractors; carpoolers, single-occupant vehicle commuters; individuals who are transit-dependent or organizations who serve transit-dependent populations are specifically encouraged to apply.
Members will be appointed by the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board to make sure that all geographic areas of the region and diverse points of view are equally represented, including environmental, business, and civic organizations, as well as low-income, minority, and disabled populations.
The primary role of the Citizens Advisory Committee will be to enhance citizen and public involvement in the transportation planning process by providing input on key regional planning activities, as well as assisting in outreach to communities throughout the region. Additionally, members will receive regular updates on the planning process and be able to discuss planning issues with staff of the Metropolitan Planning Organization and representatives of the BRTB.
Meetings are generally held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Baltimore Metropolitan Council from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Members must have a sincere interest in serving the community and must have the time to review pertinent materials and attend meetings. Regular attendance at CAC meetings is expected. New members will serve a three-year term, starting in January 2010. Several one- and two-year appointments may also be available.
