BRTB Seeks Input on Spending Stimulus Funds

BALTIMORE (June 26, 2009) – The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) has approximately $20 million to spend on local transportation projects in the Baltimore region. These funds, allocated through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, are to be used on "shovel-ready" projects that will put people to work and help stimulate the local economy. The BRTB welcomes comments from the public through Monday, July 20.

Eligible projects include such things as the resurfacing, reconstruction and rehabilitation of county roads; ADA compliance projects; and intersection improvements. These kinds of "fix-it-first" projects will improve safety and traffic flow, and allow the benefits of the stimulus to be felt by workers and families throughout the region. The proposed projects are submitted as an amendment to the 2008-2012 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

A list of proposed projects is available at the Regional Information Center at 2700 Lighthouse Point East (2700 block of Boston Street), Suite, 310, in the Canton area of Baltimore city. PDF files of the proposed projects are also available online at http://www.baltometro.org/content/view/1131/618/. Please note that stimulus projects for Baltimore City were included in a previous amendment to the TIP and are not listed again.

The public review period will extend through Monday, July 20, 2009.
