Open For Public Review: Unified Planning Work Program for Transportation Planning

BALTIMORE
(January 31, 2007) -- Each year the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) develops a work program for the coming fiscal year.  This program, known as the UPWP or Unified Planning Work Program, identifies activities to be completed on behalf of the BRTB by the transportation planning staff of the Baltimore Metropolitan Council.  The public is invited to review and comment on the draft of the UPWP for Fiscal Year 2008 (July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2008).

The UPWP focuses on issues such as:

  • Bicycle and pedestrian access and safety
  • Environmental planning for air and water quality
  • Strategies to improve mass transit
  • Systems to monitor and evaluate congestion, improve safety, and increase efficiency
  • Transportation needs of the elderly, individuals with disabilities and low-income residents
The complete draft of the FY 2008 UPWP is available online in PDF format at www.baltometro.org/content/view/775/508/.  A print version is available at the Regional Information Center, located in the BMC’s offices at 2700 Lighthouse Point East in the Canton area of Baltimore.

A presentation on the UPWP will be made at the next meeting of the BRTB’s Citizens Advisory Committee on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at 5:30 p.m. at BMC.  The public is encouraged to attend the meeting and share their thoughts and ideas.
