Vision: Looking 50 Years Into the Future

Visualize the Baltimore region in 2060…

How will you get around? Will you walk, bike, drive, or take a bus, a train, or even a ferry? Will our communities still be inviting?

Decisions made today help to determine the future. The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board wants to work with you to improve our region's livability, sustainability, mobility and accessibility. Using a comprehensive approach, the BRTB wants to engage stakeholders throughout the region in a vision process. This vision for the future will include improvements in all types or modes of transportation, from walking and biking, to driving and riding on transit.

To sustain our high quality of life, we must look at how we grow and how we are connected. With strategic investments in our current transportation system, we can ensure that transportation in the Baltimore region continues to support our strong economy, maintain our sense of community, and protect our valuable environmental resources while curbing growth in congestion.

The vision process will facilitate a dialogue about how to plan for the Baltimore region we want to create for future generations. The BRTB will be reaching out to hear what you have to say about the future of transportation in the Baltimore region. Over the coming months the BRTB will

  • engage the public in a variety of ways;
  • conduct technical analyses of the impacts of alternative transportation and land development scenarios; and
  • develop consensus on a preferred scenario for the vision.
