Plan It 2035: Partners in Transportation

Plan It 2035

Like many urban areas in the country, the Baltimore region has an extensive transportation network — including highways, city streets, suburban and rural roads, bus lines, train tracks and bicycling paths. All of these modes of transportation have one thing in common: they help people and goods get where they need to go.

Plan It 2035 - the next Long-Range Transportation Plan for the Baltimore Region - was approved by the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) on Monday, November 14, 2011.

Plan It 2035 was developed with local, state, and federal agency transportation professionals, area business leaders, community advocates, and many other interested stakeholders. Key steps of the planning process were:

  • Final Plan - On Monday, November 14, 2011 the BRTB voted to approve Plan It 2035, which sets aside nearly $11.5 billion worth of projects to expand our current transportation system, $24 billion to operate the existing system, and $9.4 billion for system preservation. Visit this page to download a copy of the plan or executive summary (in English and Spanish).

  • Draft Plan - A public review period on the draft plan was held from Wednesday, September 21 through Friday, October 21, 2011. Learn more about the draft plan or see the public comments submitted

  • Project Evaluation process - Learn more about the process used for evaluating and selecting projects for Plan It 2035.

  • Financial Forecast - The projects listed in the draft plan are a carefully selected mix that takes into account the level of resources that can reasonably be expected to be available through 2035.

  • Demographic and Socio-economic Projections - Planning a transportation system for generations to come is a complex task. How many people will live here? Where will they work? What kind of transportation service will they want and need? Visit this page to learn more about these forecasts.

  • Call for Projects - Plan It 2035 includes a variety of projects that add to or enhance our existing transportation system. These include transit, bicycle, pedestrian, and highway and interchange projects. The BRTB also includes projects that help the system function more efficiently.

  • Goals and Strategies - Learn more about the eight goals of Plan It 2035 and how they were developed.

  • Public Outreach and Engagement - Throughout the process to develop Plan It 2035, the public was invited to comment on the draft goals, share their project ideas, and join us at public meetings or give the BRTB feedback.
