Topic Papers What should our region’s transportation system look like in 2060, 50 years from now? That’s one of many questions the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board is asking as part of the imagine 2060 process. The imagine 2060 process covers four core issue areas: Transportation, Smart Growth, Environment, and Economic Development. Learn more about these core areas: Download one of our Topic Papers today. >> Imagine 2060 Summary of Topic Papers (pdf, 1.5 mb) Transportation - Are your transportation facilities safe? Consider not only hazardous conditions on a roadway but also safety and security concerns with public transit. Are your transportation facilities reliable? This might refer to how long it takes for you to drive from one place to another, accounting for traffic congestion. Or, it might mean how long you have to wait for the next bus. Are there enough alternatives? Suppose you don’t own a car or can’t use a car because of disability or age. Are there other ways for you to get around? What kinds of transportation facilities would you like to see built in the future? Consider both the near future and the next 50 years. >> Transportation: Personal Travel (pdf, 1.5 mb) >> Transportation: Roadways (pdf, 1.4 mb) >> Transportation: Transit (pdf, 670 kb) >> Transportation: Walk and Bike (pdf, 3.5 mb) >> Transportation: Footnotes (pdf, 158 kb) Smart Growth - Consider your community and the transportation alternatives available to you. Can you easily access things like jobs, schools, stores, government offices, and parks? Should your community consider changing its zoning regulations to allow other land uses? For example, allowing office buildings or housing to be built in a traditionally retail roadway corridor? Is it important to preserve existing farmland or forested land in your county? >> Smart Growth (pdf, 3.9 mb) Environment - Is your community a clean, healthy place to live and raise a family? How good is the air quality where you live? Are there days when people are advised to stay indoors because of air quality concerns? Are there natural resources or historic sites in or near your neighborhood that should be preserved? >> Environment (pdf, 5.5 mb) Economic Development - How well do existing roads, sidewalks, and transit facilities provide access to neighborhoods, businesses and places of employment? What kinds of jobs are available in your community? Are facilities and opportunities in place to support the startup and growth of local businesses? >> Economic Development: Demographics (pdf, 3.9 mb)
