Congestion Management
Traffic congestion costs time and money. A recent report published by the Texas Transportation Institute, ranked the Baltimore region 16th in terms of annual delay per traveler. This is up from 29th place just a few years earlier.In an effort to reduce congestion, local and regional planners and transportation agencies use a Congestion Management Process to help monitor congestion, identify problems, and find solutions that improve the transportation system.
What is a Congestion Management Process?A Congestion Management Process is basically the name for the process of:
- Monitoring and evaluating the performance of existing transportation facilities;
- Identifying the cause and location of congestion; and
- Providing information to support strategies that lessen congestion and improve mobility.
