2010-2013 TIP Amendment for BWI MARC Station
Amendment to FY 2010-2013 Transportation Improvement Program
The MD Department of Transportation, on behalf of the MD Transit Administration, has requested an amendment to the 2010-2013 Transportation Improvement Program to include $9.4 million for station and track improvements at the BWI MARC station.
The $9.4 million in High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail funds are to perform Preliminary Engineering for a 4th track, new platform and station building at the BWI MARC station. The new station building will utilize Green design to accommodate growing BWI ridership and other development needs. The Maryland Aviation Administration and MDOT’s Office of Real Estate are engaged in additional studies to support the station’s development.
Funding will also be used for track and platform improvements. This includes nine miles of a 4th track to build out the corridor and reduce congestion while improving safety. The new platform will accommodate the new track and allow for an island platform so that all tracks could be used for passenger services.
