2011-2014 TIP Amendment: Cleaner Greener Transit

Cleaner and Greener Buses & Bus Maintenance Facilities
Amendment to Transportation Improvement Program

The Maryland Department of Transportation, on behalf of the Maryland Transit Administration, submitted a request to amend the Transportation Improvement Program for three projects in Baltimore City.

All of these projects strive to be “Cleaner and Greener” by making improvements such as increasing energy efficiency of maintenance facilities and reducing vehicle emissions.  The $15.1 million in funding for these projects comes from a number of federal grants.

Details about the projects are listed below.

Bush Street Maintenance Shop (1300 Bush Street in Baltimore City) $12 million grant to replace the existing 103-year old bus maintenance facility with a new “Green” environmentally friendly facility.  This improvement would increase the capacity for the MTA to perform major maintenance on their fleet of 737 buses, as well as allow additional space for staging some of MTA’s articulated buses.
