    Have you registered for Bike to Work Day 2008?
     

    Bike to Work Day 2008Bike to Work Day 2008, sponsored by the Baltimore Metropolitan Council, will be celebrated in the Baltimore region and across the nation on Friday, May 16, 2008.

    Between 7 and 8:30 a.m. on May 16, bicycle commuters will converge on locations throughout the region - including Annapolis, Bel Air, Baltimore City, Towson, and a new location in Columbia!

    Register today to be eligible for prizes! The first 500 registrants will receive a free T-shirt and the first 225 registrants will receive a free T-shirt and mussette Bag.

    All participants will also receive an on-the-go snack with java, and the chance to win bike accessories or the grand prize: a bicycle tour for 2 on the C&O Canal/Great Allegheny Passage from our sponsor, Adventure Cycling. You must be registered and attend a rally to win prizes.

     
     
     
    Spring Walking Tour Series
     
    Baltimore Heritage IncBaltimore Heritage, Inc. is excited to present its Spring Walking Tour series. These tours will provide thought-provoking guided strolls that uncover the buildings, stories and places that weave the cultural fabric of Baltimore's historic neighborhoods.

    Red Line Community Summit
     
    Mayor's Red Line SummitMayor Sheila Dixon and the City of Baltimore invite you to imagine the opportunities of Baltimore's proposed Red Line at the Red Line Community Summit held at the Baltimore Convention Center on Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m.

    As the Red Line moves into its final planning stages, Mayor Dixon wants to leverage every possible opportunity to make the Red Line work for our communities. This means focusing not just on where the line will run and where stations will be located, but more importantly how the Red Line fits into our communities, generates jobs, economic opportunities and affordable housing, and protects our unique urban environment and historic districts.

    Tour dem Parks, Hon!
     
    Tour Dem Parks, Hon!Join hundreds of other riders on Sunday June 8th for the 2008 Tour dem Parks, Hon! annual bike ride.

    Tour dem Parks is a major fundraising event focused on supporting groups and organizations dedicated to improving Baltimore's Park system. The event provides friends and families with an opportunity to ride together and discover little-known treasures in the city.

    This year, the event features four routes, all beginning and ending in Carroll Park:

    • 14 mile tour goes along the newly completed Gwynns Falls Trail in the Gwynns Falls Valley.
    • 20 mile tour goes through many of the City's parks and waterfront areas.
    • 30-plus mile tour goes through all of the City's major parks, as well as many waterfront areas and historic neighborhoods.
    • 60 mile metric century ride - new this year.

    2008 Civil War Century Bike Tour
     
    Civil War Century Bike TourJoin the Baltimore Bicycling Club on Saturday, September 6, 2008 in Thurmont, MD for their 8th Annual Civil War Century Bike Tour.

    The Civil War Century cycling event has everything -- famous historical sites, breathtaking scenery, low-traffic roads, and well-marked routes designed for every ability level.

    As in the past, you can visit the South Mountain and Antietam or Gettysburg battlefield sites -- or all three of them if you elect to ride the full century -- while cycling through some of the most beautiful countryside east of the Mississippi.
    Bill to allow bike/ped access to MdTA bridges passes
     

    SB 492, which empowers the head of the Maryland Transportation Authority to authorize pedestrians and bicyclists to use MdTA bridges, has passed both houses of the Maryland legislature unanimously and awaits the Governor's signature.
