| NEW WEB SITE PROVIDES REAL-TIME TRAFFIC
INFORMATION |
| Site tracks traffic along I-95 from New Jersey to North
Carolina |
The I-95 Corridor Coalition
recently launched a new web site which uses real time vehicle probe data to
allow long distance travelers to see congestion and get travel times on the I-95
corridor from the northern border of New Jersey through the southern border of
North Carolina.
The "Traffic" page provides
speed and congestion information on the I-95 corridor, including I-95, the
Beltways surrounding each major city, and all associated routes that together
make up the corridor.
The "Travel Time" page provides
both the current and typical travel time for the selected route, using a list of
provided locations.
Users can select from a list of
large cities, airports, and other landmarks to set departing locations and
destinations, and the system returns real time travel time estimates.

| TRANSPORTATION FOR MARYLAND COALITION |
New
coalition to focus on federal and state transportation legislation and
activities
|
|
A coalition of
organizations, including 1000 Friends of Maryland, Baltimore Regional Initiative
Developing Genuine Equality (BRIDGE), Central Maryland Transportation Alliance,
Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Citizens Planning and Housing Association, has
recently been formed to focus on transportation reform at both the federal and
state levels.
The goals of
the Transportation For Maryland coalition are threefold:
-
Ensure Maryland uses its Federal
Stimulus funds effectively and efficiently
-
Federal Transportation Bill
should be rewritten, not just reauthorized
-
Maryland's transportation system
should be improved to ensure that it meets performance standards, such as
creating jobs and protecting the environment; and is fully and fairly
funded
The coalition recently held a
press conference to announce its establishment, as well as to release the
findings of a recent report by Smart Growth, The States and the Stimulus:
What their Transportation Spending Tells Us about Accountability. In
addition, the coalition presented to the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board
at its July meeting. Handouts from that meeting can be viewed using the link
below.
Organizations wishing to
sign-on as a Coalition Member can e-mail Jennifer@friendsofmd.org.

ToolBank USA would like to hear from Baltimore,
MD!
A group
of local nonprofit organizations and for-profit companies are assessing
community interest in bringing a "ToolBank" program to Baltimore. A Baltimore
Community ToolBank would steward a vast inventory of tools (ladders, rakes,
cordless drills, and much more) for use solely by charitable organizations in
their service projects. Typical tool borrowers include public schools, churches,
nonprofits, neighborhood associations, community groups, social clubs, parks,
cemeteries, and many others. A 60-second online Community Interest Survey awaits
you at the link below, along with a chance to win a $50 Home Depot gift card for
completing the survey. The survey is open to all residents of the Baltimore
region. www.toolbank.org |
