Transportation Outlook 2035 : Creating a Blueprint for the Baltimore Region's Future

Transportation Outlook 2035 Proposed Projects

The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB) has released the final version of Transportation Outlook 2035, the long-range transportation plan for the Baltimore region.

Transportation Outlook 2035 cover

In May 2007, the local jurisdictions in the Baltimore region (Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard Counties, as well as the Cities of Baltimore and Annapolis) in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Transportation submitted a list of projects to be considered for Transportation Outlook 2035. This initial list was not constrained by costs.

The initial list included over 130 transit, bicycle, pedestrian, highway, and management and operations projects.  After further analysis and consideration of available funds, the BRTB narrowed this list down to just over 90 projects.  This list was detailed in a first draft plan summary, released for public review and comment in Summer 2007.

Based on significant public input on the need for additional transit and expanded transportation choices, the BRTB further modified the project list by reducing the number of highway projects in the plan. These highway projects were deferred within the plan and those project funds were shifted into transit.

This updated list of projects is detailed in the revised draft of the Executive Summary of Transportation Outlook 2035, now available for public review.

** Note: The first draft list of projects also identified projects from the MD Transportation Authority (MdTA).  Although MdTA is not requesting federal funds, these projects were included in the regional travel model and air quality analyses to factor in their impact on the transportation network.
