Is work what we do, or where we go?For more and more employees all over the Baltimore region, it’s definitely what they do. They have their work come to them. They escape the hassles of daily traffic. They face their tasks with clear heads and unlimited energy. They are teleworking.
What is teleworking? It’s working from a remote location, usually a home office, one or more days a week via commuter, fax, and telephone.
How do supervisors know that teleworkers are producing?Telework arrangements, despite what some may think, are usually very structured. In most cases, employers and their teleworkers sign written agreements that set strict performance measures. National studies have shown that teleworkers can increase an organization’s productivity by as much as 20%. People who telework save themselves and their employers lots of money. And they are making our air cleaner.
Want to set-up a telework program? We can help! The Baltimore Metropolitan Council and the Maryland Department of Transportation can help your organization establish a telework program. We can recommend consultants to create program materials, and we might even be able to provide you with a grant for a pilot telework program.
