The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board is currently seeking members for their Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC is a diverse group of citizens, representatives of community organizations, and industry professionals that promote public engagement and provide independent, region-oriented advice regarding regional transportation planning and related issues. >> Download a Flyer or Brochure Why serve on the CAC? Volunteering to serve on the CAC is a great way to directly provide input to decision makers. Additional benefits include:
New members will be appointed for 3-year terms, starting in January 2011. Shorter terms may also be available. Meetings of the CAC are generally held on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in Baltimore City. In addition, the CAC has 3 standing subcommittees, which meet at various locations or by telephone/e-mail. The total volunteer commitment is approximately 2-5 hours per month. The Citizens Advisory Committee is a group of citizens and representatives of community organizations and industry professionals.
Members are appointed by the Baltimore Regional Transportation Board to make sure that all geographic areas of the region and diverse points of view are equally represented.
The Mission of the CAC is to:
- Serve as an advisory body to the BRTB.
- Provide independent, region-oriented citizen advice on issues related to the development of the Baltimore Regional Transportation Plan, Unified Planning Work Program, Transportation Improvement Program and amendments that affect the region’s conformity with federal air quality requirements, the public involvement process, regionally significant land use issues, and other regional transportation-related issues, as appropriate.
- Promote public awareness and participation in the regional transportation planning process. Promote equity in the regional transportation planning process.
Currently there are 3 subcommittees of the CAC:
- Membership Subcommittee - This committee focuses on orientation of new members and recruitment of new members when necessary.
- Public Involvement and Outreach Subcommittee - This committee focuses on improving the public involvement and outreach activities of the BRTB. Activities will include, but are not limited to:
- Public Participation Plan;
- Participation Plan for long-rang transportation plan;
- Speaker’s Bureau;
- Evaluation of public involvement techniques; and
- Outreach.
- Policy and Legislation Subcommittee - This committee focuses on areas such as education for members about the transportation planning process and updating members on relevant local, regional, and federal legislation and policy.

Join us at a meeting!
Attending a CAC meeting is a good way to learn about the various issues related to transportation, the environment, and environmental justice.
The meetings are open to the public to attend as a guest and participate in discussions as time allows. You can also talk to members of the CAC to get their perspective on issues.
Generally, meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at the Baltimore Metropolitan Council from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Check the calendar for the upcoming CAC meeting for exact details on issues to be discussed.
