Vision 2030 was launched in the summer of 2001 in an effort to involve residents, businesses and government in reaching consensus on a clear, consistent and realistic vision for the future of the Baltimore region over the next ten, twenty and thirty years. The process included six steps:
Step 1 – Understanding the Region July-August 2001
Focus groups Stakeholder interviews Regional trends analysis Step 2 – Involving Stakeholders October 2001 – March 2002
Regional Workshop Development of subcommittees on the Environment, Social Equity, Economic Development, and Government and Public Policy Step 3 – Prototypical Development Patterns, Scenarios and Indicators October 2001 – March 2002 Step 4 – Public Meetings April-May 2002 Step 5 – Developing Vision Strategies and Statements
June 2002
Step 6 – Testing the Vision Statements and Strategies Regional Telephone Survey of 1,203 randomly selected residents to test core values and strategies with the public Community Choices Workshop to fine-tune the vision strategies and statements
The vision statements and strategies developed in Vision 2030 were considered and in developing Transportation 2030, the long-range transportation plan for the Baltimore Region. Strategies were incorporated into T2030 as appropriate.
